Watching MOTD again it was a nice change to see the team playing quicker one and two touch football. Of course you need confidence to do that and it got better as the goals went in. Benrahma put in a couple of decent whipped low crosses in the second half, which actually had an end product, after I criticised him from skying one or two into the crowd behind the goal in the first half., These players though should be working hard on their weaker foot on the training pitch if they are going to be playing on the "wrong side". Ings made the best of the crosses or shot in Bowen's case by being in the right place in the area.

Johnson was far better on the right. He defends ok on the left but isn't an attacking threat. You then have two right footers on the left which won't work against better sides. As said below Cresswell looked shaky when he first came on but added a threat attacking wise, He played a lovely slide pass to Fornals for the fourth goal. No matter what your thought are on Cresswell he is one4 of the few players who can cross a ball.

Forest were poor but you can only beat what's in front of you and I thought we moved the ball far quicker than recent weeks. Even Rice's goal came from quick control, shift and shoot, that's confidence.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
The difference was scoring a goal. Had the one that hit the post or the header that Ings got wrong in the first half gone in then that would also have changed the game.

The goal took the pressure off. Until we scored the
second half was much like the first.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
Yeah, but there's possession and then there's possession.

You can keep the ball, with little intent and no teeth. Or you can keep it in the tougher areas of the pitch, when you're on the front foot and full of intent.

That was the difference between the first half and the second. And, yes, that's on Moyes.

His starting and default position is too often cripplingly cautious. It's why we are in this mess.

But the second half was an improvement and not just the goals. We looked like we wanted the three points. And it has been a while since we could say that.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
But we had a greater share of possession, more corners and as many shots in the first half as we did in the second.

Forest were not great but had been on a decent run for a bottom half club. Their mistake was to take Shelvey off. They did crumble once we scored though.

I think some let their dislike of Moyes - I'm not arguing - colour everything they see.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Notts Forest - Official Match Thread - It’s a Ratch
I thought 4-0 flattered us a bit, but I'll have it (of course).

First half, we looked our usual Moyes self: bereft of ideas and much in the way of attacking intent.

Second half was a much better effort, no doubt. Not just because of the goals - and well done Danny Ings: looked like a proper goal hanger, a much-maligned and much-needed role - but out tempo and intent was good.

Forest were really poor. This is quite a poor league below the top six or so. So we have a chance to climb away from trouble. But I'm not getting carried away.

I still think Moyes' innate defensiveness and excruciating inability to open up the team and get on the front foot means we''' try to "respect the point" - and lose - in game where we might take something. So I still think this will be a slog until May.

We're still in a relegation scrap. But that was a good start to getting out of the shit Moyes has created.

Forest were abysmal.

I'm a little more confident there might be 3 teams shitter than us this season, and along with Southampton and Bournemouth, they could quite well be one of them.

Jimbo

I disagree somewhat with that. I didn't think we were great in first half at all. I simply couldn't see where a goal was coming from. We had one tactic. Get it wide and cross it. It simply wasn't working. We were too slow in getting the ball forward and our crosses were poor and ineffective.

2nd half it improved

By the way did Nurse predict this?
I miss the anticipation of her predictions and feel we need them to get back to winning ways...

Loved seeing Fornals setup Antonio. Even Soucek showed some flashes of classy skill.
Great win

Its priceless to see how dramatically the moans disappeared in a 2 min spell, I wonder why? We weren’t shit in the first half, just couldn’t score and hit the woodwork once again. Well played WH & more of that please.

Very decent result after 70 frustrating minutes. We can’t use Forest as a barometer of turning any corners as they were woeful but a win is a win and it does bring confidence. We need to go and attack teams way more and Moyes needs to learn from how he’s Mis-managed the team and formation most of the season and the end of last ( of course he won’t). I hope this kicks us into Wednesday with the bit between our teeth we will have to pull out a huge performance to get past Manure.
Bowen was very good yesterday and also Paqueta. Seeing Ings score as he did inside the box, twice, is a sore reminder of what we’ve lacked for a long time. I’m glad Benni played a part in something with end product as first half he deserved to be hooked. Give Moyes some credit the removal of Coufal and switching Johnson to the other side to bring on Cresswell worked. At least in that game. We should move forward now with some confidence.

A good result yesterday, can't remember the last time I felt relaxed in the closing minutes of a Premiership game. The first half was a good picture of how we have been for a lot of the season - no cutting edge. Then 20mins in the second half we suddenly found it. My man of the match was Paquetta, although obviously, Ings stole the headlines. Agree with those that worried about Creswell's inclusion and a couple of times early on he definitely looked suspect. But I thought he overcame that and provided a couple of nice touches and crosses in the attacking half and still a better choice for taking corners than Rice imo. Great save from Areola and nice Antonio scored. Still need to play at least 5 more teams as bad Forest before we are out of the woods (Pun intended)

Scamacca is coming back from injury. Why bother putting him in any sort of risk if he’s not fully fit when the game is already won and there are 10 mins left? Plenty of games coming up for him to play.

Antonio was the sensible choice there.

Actually despite the need to pick holes for some, Moyes did actually get all the calls right yesterday, for a change.

Forest are in danger of failing to eclipse the seven away goals Norwich City scored in 2019-20 – the fewest in Premier League history

Sir Alf ,

I was disappointed that Antonio came on instead of Scamacca. At 3-0 up what was the point of bringing on yesterdays man to coin a phrase when a 35 m striker ( value questionable or otherwise) could have come on and nicked a goal which would have been great for his confidence and I assume a lift for his pending start against Utd .

I agree with Norf, Forest are one of the worst teams I've seen in recent seasons, although Bournemouth are in there as well.

Can't understand why Emerson isn't in the team ahead of Cresswell, and why when he does play, he's a wing back? It's pretty much over for Coufal and Cresswell, just pick Johnson and Emerson and save the subs for more important positions.
